Inspired after John Cage’s work ”4’33”, I realized how much of our surroundings we discard as mere background noise or even disruptive. I recorded these sounds and used their patterns and textures to create music.
The project consists of two parts; each with its own focus. The first focuses on nonconventional approaches to experimental sound and beat design through recording and manipulating electrical, mechanical and ambient sound sources, creating patterns and textures. And these elements then form the basis for the second part of the project – a composition in the twelve-tone tonality.
Experimental Audio Focus #
This project aims to shift perceptions of what is traditionally considered musically viable to include electronic, mechanical, and natural sounds that are usually overlooked, ignored, or dismissed as either invasive or mere background noise.
The methods used in this project can be replicated and incorporated into anyone’s workflow, whether they are working on music, movie soundtracks, or as Foley artist.
